OTTAWA, Ont. – Contract talks lasting throughout the weekend have resulted in tentative agreements for contract instructors and teaching assistants at Carleton University.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees reached deals for both units of Local 4600 in the early hours of Monday morning, March 10.
The bargaining teams for CUPE Local 4600 will recommend that the university’s 1,800 teaching assistants (TAs) and 700 contract instructors (CIs) ratify the agreements.
Ratification votes will take place within the next few days.
“Although we are pleased to have two tentative agreements that we can recommend to our members, we are mindful that our brothers and sisters in OPSEU 404, representing safety officers at Carleton, went on strike yesterday,” said CUPE representative John Gillies.
“Our members will be doing everything they can to support them in their fight for a fair contract.”
Details of the agreements for TAs and CIs at Carleton will not be released until members of CUPE Local 4600 have reviewed them and put the contracts to a vote for ratification.
