CLARENCE-ROCKLAND, Ont. – Municipal employees will go directly to City Council to deliver their message at the Bourget community hall Monday evening.

“We want to make sure that City Council doesn’t interpret the 87% strike vote as simply being a vote,” indicated Jean-Marc Bézaire, CUPE National Representative.

“Members are mobilizing to demonstrate to Council the seriousness of the situation and that they are prepared to take action if necessary,” added Bézaire.

“Our proposals are modest,” he continued.  “We simply want to give priority to benefits which will benefit families the most, and this can be done within the compensation envelope adopted by the City.  The absence of a settlement is incomprehensible.”

Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 503 represents all full-time municipal employees at the City of Clarence-Rockland, namely:  public works road crews clearing winter snow, arena operators, mechanics, child care educators in child care centres, operators at the waste disposal site, tax collection, accounts receivable and accounts payable staff, urban planners, building inspection officers, by-law officers, and other administrative support staff at City offices.
