Sixteen Bonfield municipal workers have been on strike since August 1, after the Town’s Mayor tried to force the workers to accept major concessions by imposing his own terms and conditions. After mediation talks failed to reach a settlement, CUPE offered to send outstanding issues to arbitration by a neutral, third party – a move that would have allowed for municipal services to resume quickly in Bonfield. The Mayor of Bonfield refused CUPE’s offer of arbitration and proceeded to contract out winter roads maintenance.
