OWEN SOUND, Ont. – Grey County municipal workers, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), reached a tentative collective agreement with their County employer after both parties met yesterday with the assistance of a provincial conciliator.

“Our goal was to reach a fair deal so our members can focus on what they do best – delivering public services to Grey County residents,” said Mike Walters, CUPE national representative. “The tentative agreement will have to be ratified by both parties, but this contract will let our members continue to serve the community, especially with the winter season ahead.”

CUPE 1530 represents 55 outside municipal workers who provide county road maintenance in Grey County, including snow removal, road repairs, grading and cutting at the side of the roads, and vehicles maintenance. The workers’ last contract expired on May 31, 2013.

Details of the agreement will not be released until both parties have reviewed and ratified the tentative contract scheduled for next month.
