Literacy Nova Scotia

The Canadian federal government has announced plans to take millions of dollars from literacy and other training programs in Ontario (all provinces) to finance its proposed “Canada Job Grant”.

Harper has unilaterally withdrawn funding for Labour Market Agreements next year and come up with a new Canada Job Grant that gives the money to corporations. This means the provinces lose $600 million. Plus Harper is demanding the provinces contribute 1/3 of the payment to the corporations. The provinces are against this, as are all training programs whose learners will not be covered under Harper’s new scheme.
