Members of CUPE Local 4616 were forced into a defensive strike on August 1. Their employer, the Township of Bonfield, threatened to impose a contract that allowed contracting-out of public services and many concessions. The mayor has since fired one-third of the bargaining unit.

The 282 members of CUPE Local 1393, representing skilled trades and a wide range of professional staff at the University of Windsor, have been on strike since September 8 to protect job security and seniority rights.
The dispute has jeopardized the academic year for thousands of students, and put campus and public safety at risk. It’s time for University of Windsor administration to sit down and bargain a fair settlement with its workers.
Just after midnight on September 30, the Continuing Educations Students’ Association of Ryerson (CESAR) locked out two unionized staff, members of CUPE Local 1281.
In addition to demanding future employees’ wages are rolled back 10 per cent, CESAR is also attempting to eliminate an unfilled position, effectively entrenching unacceptable workloads.
