Northern Ontario CUPE leaders met in North Bay on Monday, September 23, for a leadership meeting to discuss different ways to support Bonfield municipal workers, including increased support on the picket lines. The delegates then made their way to Bonfield for a solidarity picket and BBQ.

“We are going to support these members as long as it takes to achieve a fair contract,” said CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn. “Our leaders from across the North met today and pledged support to increase our presence on the picket lines and make sure our sisters and brothers know they will never stand alone against this bully employer.”

The 16 members have been on strike since August 1, after the Town of Bonfield’s mayor tried to force the municipal workers to accept major concessions by imposing his own terms and conditions.

The Ontario Federation of Labour is calling on all affiliates to come to Bonfield on Saturday, October 5, for a mass rally. For information about the event, click here and share the Facebook event page.
