WINDSOR, Ont. – Negotiators remain available to bargain ‘at a moment’s notice’ with the University of Windsor, the President of Local 1393 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1393) said today.
“From the moment our members went on strike last week, we have been clear that we wanted to resume bargaining,” said Dean Roy, President of CUPE 1393.
“Unfortunately, university administration hasn’t shared this sense of urgency,” he added.
Roy was responding to news that four Unifor units had reached tentative agreements with the university early this morning.
“While we don’t know what is contained in those tentative agreements reached by Unifor, we obviously hope that they are agreements that the members of those bargaining units feel are fair,” said Roy.
CUPE 1393 represents 280 skilled trades and professional staff of the University of Windsor who provide a wide range of vital services including plumbers and carpenters, nursing staff, lab technicians and information technology specialists, to name just a few. Members walked off the job Sunday morning after their bargaining committee rejected an offer from the university administration that contained a number of demands for concessions.
“Now that the university has reached tentative agreements with its Unifor locals on campus, I’m hopeful they can now find the time to sit down and negotiate a fair settlement with us. We remain available to bargain at a moment’s notice, as we have all week,” said Roy.
