SARNIA, Ont. – The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is proud to support and host a free public screening of We Are Wisconsin, an award-winning documentary that chronicles the workers’ uprising against Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s controversial ‘budget repair’ bill – designed to wipe out workers’ rights. The public event is presented by the Sarnia Lambton District CUPE Council and the film will have its Sarnia premiere on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sarnia Public Library Auditorium, 124 Christina Street South, Sarnia, corner of Christina and Wellington Streets.
“This riveting documentary shows the human stories and workers’ solidarity that led to the uprising against the Wisconsin government’s attacks on public services and workers’ rights during the winter of 2011,” said Cyndi Brumaroff, president of Sarnia Lambton District CUPE Council Local 9143. “CUPE is proud to present this documentary, especially in the era of the Liberal government’s attacks on labour in Ontario. Workers need, more than ever, to organize and unite to fight back against these kinds of open and hostile attacks on the working people.”
CUPE Ontario president Fred Hahn will bring greetings and Brian Austin, a Madison police officer and founder of ‘Cops for Labour’ and an active participant during the Wisconsin protest, will introduce the film and share his personal experience in a question-and-answer session following the conclusion of the documentary.
“We invite Sarnia residents to join us for the public screening of this powerful documentary and share with their brothers and sisters the importance of public services and workers’ rights in our community during these uncertain economic and political times,” concluded Brumaroff.
