CUPE Ontario is committed to maintaining an accessible space for all of our union events and Convention 2015 is no exception.

I require an accommodation to participate in convention.  How do I go about this?

Accommodation for members with special needs begins with completing an Access Request Form and submitting it to CUPE Ontario.  Shortly after the application cut-off date you will be contacted so that the appropriate arrangements for convention can be made.

Some examples of services CUPE Ontario can provide for convention are ASL Interpretation, scooters, real-time captioning, Braile or large-print documentation, TTY, visual alarm in the hotel room, funding for attendants and more.

CUPE Ontairo has a Workers with Disabilities committee which works very hard to improve access to CUPE events for our members.  The committee audits hotels prior to convention, so that we can let members know what accommodations are available, and so that we can ensure maximum accessibility.

Our hotel venues are required to have accessible hotel rooms, meeting rooms and social spaces.  Our stagers are required to set up the convention plenary with access in mind, and with an evacuation procedure in place.

This is a Scent-free and Latex-Free Event

Increasingly, workers are becoming sensitized to chemicals and latex in the environment.  In the interest of the health and safety of sisters and brothers whose health may suffer from these exposures, please refrain from the use of scented products such as perfume and aftershave and latex products such as balloons in the convention hall.

I require access to on-site child care for my child aged infant to 9 at Convention 2015. How do I go about this?

Members will have access the on-site child care at convention.  Our child care staff are trained, early childhood educators who have developed a full day, inclusive and age appropriate program.  Children with special needs are very welcome.  Lunch and snacks are provided.  On-site childcare can be requested through the On-Site Child Care Registration form.  Child care at convention is free of charge.

My child aged 10 to 14 would like to participate in CUPE Ontario’s Youth Camp this year.  How can they sign up?

Youth at convention between the ages of 10 to 14 will also be able to participate in our very exciting Youth Camp program which takes youth on a learning journey about unions with lots of fun things built in.

The On-Site child care registration form is included in your Convention package.

I require reimbursement of off-site child care or other dependant expenses due to attending Convention 2015.  What options are available?

CUPE Ontario provides access to a fund for reimbursement of child care expenses that are in excess of your regular child care fees.  For example, if your regular fees are $30 per day, and attending the 2015 CUPE Ontario Convention requires you to pay $40 per day, then you would be entitled to reimburse the “excess fees” of $10 per day.

Reimbursement for child care expenses can be requested through the Dependent Care Subsidy form, included in your convention package.

I require access to materials in French, such as translated documents.  How do I go about receiving these materials?

Materials for Convention 2015 are available in French, and materials created by CUPE Ontario on-site will be provided in French as well.  In order to receive further convention materials in French, please check the “Trousse en francais” checkbox on your credentials form, or visit the website for materials in both official languages.
