City’s inside workers host free weekend community swims at local pools
while fundraising for Windsor Youth Centre
WINDSOR, Ont. – The City of Windsor’s unionized inside workers, members of Local 543 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 543) today extended an invitation to Windsor residents to come ‘Swim for Free with 543.’
“We’re very excited to host these free weekend community swims while helping an extremely worthwhile community organization raise badly needed funds,” said Mark Vander Voort, President of CUPE 543.
The afternoon free swims will take place Saturday, December 1 and Saturday, December 8. The times and locations are included at the bottom of this media release.
In addition to giving residents the chance to ‘make a splash’ at community pools, Local 543 will also be fundraising on behalf of the Windsor Youth Centre (WYC), which supports homeless and at-risk youth in the community.
Copies of WYC’s book, “What is a Home,” will be available for purchase at both free swims. WYC clients and supporters will also be assisting Local 543 during the free swims.
“WYC is a great organization that does great work for some great young people. We hope Windsor brings their swimsuits, towels and some goodwill for an afternoon of fun the whole family can enjoy,” said Vander Voort.
