TORONTO, ON—The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario and the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) will hold a press conference outside the Liberal Campaign headquarters in Vaughan on Tuesday, September 4.

The situation of people on social assistance in Ontario has deteriorated significantly during the years that the Liberals have held office. People on Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support have seen the spending power of their sub-poverty income decline by close to 60% since 1995. In reality, they are now worse off than they were when the Harris Tories left office.

CUPE Ontario and OCAP will announce plans to step up the effort to challenge and reverse this situation.
