Striking Public Works employees to review agreement and hold ratification vote this Friday
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Negotiators for the Public Works unit of Local 966 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have reached a tentative agreement with the Region of Peel.
If ratified by both parties, Peel residents could see vital public services resumed as early as Wednesday.
“We recognize the importance of ensuring Peel’s water is safe to drink, that water mains and hydrants are being maintained, that our community recycling centres are operating, to name just a few of the jobs Public Works members perform,” said Mary Jo Falle, President of CUPE 966.
“That’s why we’re doing our part by putting this to our membership for a ratification vote as soon as possible. We hope Regional Council is able to hold their ratification on Monday,” she added.
Details of the tentative agreement will not be released until Public Works members have had an opportunity to review and vote on the agreement. Accordingly, Local 966’s executive will not have any further comment regarding the tentative agreement until that time.
A ratification vote has been scheduled for this Friday, July 20.
