Re: Schools face budget ‘bloodbath,’ June 13

The $120 million in cuts to the Toronto and Peel school boards are an outrage. Dalton McGuinty is gutting our education system, and most offensively, cutting the supports that keep at-risk kids in school. He could have used the money raised from the new tax on high-earners to pay for education, instead he used it to pay bankers.

When buildings are crumbling, it makes no sense to cut the people who patch our schools together and keep them safe. When keeping kids in school saves money in the long run, it makes no sense to cut the programs that keep them in school. When kids need help, it makes no sense to terminate hundreds of educational assistants, special educators, psychologists and social workers.

What is happening in Toronto and Peel is an outrage. The fact that the same thing is happening in school boards across Ontario is a tragedy in the making. Dalton McGuinty is no “education premier.” With this budget, he has turned his back on education, and on Ontario’s future.
