MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Mississauga Public Library workers, members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 966 have given their bargaining team a 90 per cent strike mandate.
“We have been in negotiations for some time,” said Hayley Thomas, unit chair for the public library workers. “We will return, with the assistance of a conciliator, on July 31 when we hope to be able to resolve our differences and come to a fair and equitable agreement.”
A strike mandate does not mean the local will go on strike. “What we have is a strong message to the employer that our members are serious when they ask for good deal,” said Bobby Nand, CUPE national representative.
