Dear editor,

I just learned that there’s a dangerous piece of legislation buried in Ontario’s budget bill. It’s a new Act that would give sweeping new powers to government insiders who could sell off or privatize almost any government service or crown corporation, all without ever bringing it to the legislature for debate or for a vote.

If Schedule 28 of the budget bill (Bill 55) passes, we will see scandals and cronyism on an unprecedented scale. It would let back-room deals sell off the LCBO or even contract OHIP out to a U.S. HMO. How can we entrust such sweeping powers to the people who brought us eHealth, Highway 407 and Ornge?

Schedule 28 must be removed from the budget bill. It is offensive that the Liberals tried to sneak it in through a budget omnibus bill.

Sincerely,
