Norfolk will phase out the sale of bottled water at county facilities where tap water is available.

Council agreed to the move Tuesday following a presentation from Robyn Hamlyn, 13, of Kingston.

Hamlyn is a supporter of the Council of Canadians and the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ drive to create “Blue Communities” in Ontario.

One of the Blue campaign’s goals is to shut down the bottled water industry. The Blue campaign also opposes the use of contract employees at municipal water and sewage treatment plants.

“I’m on a mission,” Hamlyn said. “I believe in the ‘Power of One.’ My goal is to make all communities in Ontario Blue Communities.”

Hamlyn got involved after watching documentaries about threats to the world’s supply of fresh water. Hamlyn has sent letters to 50 Ontario municipalities asking them to support the Blue agenda.
