RICHMOND HILL, ON – The Canadian Union of Public Employees’ (CUPE) Ontario school board workers recognized the importance of giving back to the community at their annual conference by raising money to help a local charity, the Richmond Hill Community Food Bank.
The Richmond Hill Community Food Bank was established in 1986 and is an independently run non-profit agency staffed by volunteers, that exists due to the generous support of the residents of the community, local churches, businesses, service clubs and The Town of Richmond Hill.
“In light of tough economic times and aware that donations tend to dwindle after the generosity of the holiday season, we have decided to give back to our community by providing financial support to a local charity,” said Terri Preston, chair of CUPE Ontario’s School Boards Coordinating Committee.
CUPE Ontario school board workers are pleased to provide assistance to an organization whose only goal is to feed the hungry. The money collected, which totalled over $3,500, was presented to Janice Alexander, Assistant Operations Manager at the food bank, who graciously accepted the donation on behalf of the charity.
“I think it’s great that our members come together to help those in need. We hope that the funds raised make a difference for Richmond Hill residents in need,” concluded Preston.
