BURLINGTON, Ont. – Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) at the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) recently ratified their first collective agreement. The Catholic School Board also voted to accept the two-year agreement that will expire on August 31, 2012. The 40 ECEs joined the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) in October of last year.
“We are very proud to have achieved a first collective agreement for our ECEs working in Halton Catholic schools,” said Tracey Newman, president of CUPE 5200, which also represents over 400 HCDSB educational assistants (EAs). “The ECEs play an important educational role in our schools and this new contract recognizes their skills and experience.”
CUPE advocates for ECEs and lobbies governments to recognize the importance of early learning professionals in the success of children’s development. In Ontario, CUPE represents over 45,000 school board workers.
