TORONTO, Ont. – Management at Ming Pao Daily News need to get back to the bargaining table and negotiate a fair contract with their workers, Candace Rennick, Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario will say at a rally tomorrow.

CUPE Ontario members will join a rally in support of Ming Pao workers at eight o’clock tomorrow morning.

“The wages at Ming Pao are well below industry standards and it’s pretty clear that this employer has been badly exploiting its workers. The employer needs to get to the bargaining table and start negotiating in good faith for a fair first contract,” says Rennick.

Workers at 159,000-circulation Ming Pao Daily News are members of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) union and have been on strike since September 21. CUPE Ontario is joining other labour unions at tomorrow’s rally to show support for the workers.

The Canadian union of Public Employees (CUPE) represents more than 230,000 workers in Ontario. Its members work in health care, at schools and universities, for municipalities and provide a range of social services supports.
