Oppose Transit cuts! Demand lower fares and more public transit services!

Demonstrate: 8:15, Friday, September 16th, Nathan Phillips Square

The Toronto Transit Commission is meeting on Friday morning at 8:30 at City Hall, looking to implement service cuts, outsourcing and job cuts, attacks on services to the disabled and possible future fare increases. All of this to accommodate the Ford Brothers’ budget plans for undermining public services and unionized jobs in Toronto.

We need fully public transit that is accessible to all and is fully affordable. That means more investment from the city, province and federal governments. It means the wealthy and corporations paying their fare share of taxes to fund it. It means more unionized jobs to make it happen.

Good, public transit should be a right for all people in our city. It should be affordable, comfortable and available throughout the city’s communities and neighbourhoods. The Free and Accessible Transit Committee of the Greater Toronto Workers’ Assembly feels that it should ultimately be free of any fares, and fully funded by government, through a progressive tax system.

Demonstrate against cuts to public transit service and jobs! We need expanded, fully accessible and fully affordable transit.

Organized by the Free and Accessible Transit Committee of the Greater Toronto Workers’ Assembly.
