TORONTO, Ont. – Ann Dembinski, president of CUPE Local 79, representing inside workers at the City of Toronto, met today with senior management staff in the Facilities Division. The meeting follows last week’s announcement that the city intends to contract out cleaners in police stations across the city.
“This was a preliminary meeting,” said Dembinski. “We have asked for further information, and we plan to meet with the membership next week.
“It’s a shame that the city is trying to balance its books by going after some of its most vulnerable employees.
“These people are Torontonians, who pay taxes to the city and contribute to the economic well being of the city. This is another of the administration’s attack on hard working people who perform difficult and sometimes dangerous jobs,” she concluded.
