McCabe, who ran as an NDP candidate in the 1998 federal and 1999 provincial elections, has a long record of union activism on campuses including Brock Wilfred Laurier and York universities. She worked to organize part-time faculty for CUPE at Wilfred Laurier University, and earlier spent many years with the ITU/TTU Local 91 (now CEP) and AAHW, a forerunner of OPSEU. McCabe is a member of the Peel Poverty Action Group and a past editor of the Meadowvale World community newspaper.


CUPE Ontario is supporting CUPE candidates with a record number of bookoffs and funding where it can, along with encouraging volunteers to work on these campaigns.
