Since 1981, the United Nations has highlighted the rights of persons with disabilities on December 3rd.  This year’s theme is ‘Keeping the Promise,’ which draws attention to the UN’s Millennium Development Goals and their commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are included in all aspects of international development.

CUPE Ontario, particularly through its Workers With Disabilities Committee, continues to forcefully advocate on behalf of the rights of persons with disabilities.  As a Union, we strive to ensure CUPE members who live with disabilities have the supports they need to participate fully in all aspects of our movement.  We have been at the forefront of ensuring events such as conferences, conventions and educationals are accessible and that services such as sign language and captioning are available as supportive measures toward membership participation.

Across all sectors and regions of the Province, CUPE members are committed to ensuring that the people with disabilities have the supports they need to integrate into their communities.  When those supports are found wanting, our members are among the first to highlight those shortcomings and advocate for change.
