Platform & Council Priorities

Taxes

· Council needs to focus on three main areas; taxes, economic development and community safety.

· Residents are not opposed to tax increases as long as there is justification in the ward as it pertains to improving the infrastructure, development of new public facilities, public safety, etc.

· There needs to be a balanced solution so the residents of this ward feel recognized as an integral part of the city yet maintain our unique identity.

· 95% of respondents stated they were not opposed to tax increases of under two-percent, in order to maintain the current level of services if the increases are justified.

Economic Development

· Residents want to see continued effort to attract businesses that create good paying jobs, lobbying the provincial and/or federal governments to decentralize and relocate government services to the city and further development of green energy employment.

Community Safety

· Residents want a community where people feel safe and protected, be able to enjoy various aspects community activities without fear. When people feel safe about this community, it becomes a selling feature to people wanting to relocate or establish themselves here and ultimately creates a higher quality of life.
