FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Members of Local 65, Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), ratified a tentative agreement reached with their employer, the Town of Fort Frances, on Tuesday, July 20th.

Under the agreement, the 80 members of CUPE Local 65 will receive wage increases totalling 3.5 per cent over the life of the two-year agreement, along with improvements to benefit and vacation entitlement language.

“We are pleased to announce a successful conclusion of bargaining with the Town of Fort Frances, and look forward to continuing to provide the best possible service to the residents of our community,” said Paul Lafreniere, unit chair for municipal workers with Local 65.

The new collective agreement also contains improvements for part-time employees, including a sick leave benefit plan and recalculation of vacation entitlements for present and future employees who worked as seasonal or part-time employees prior to obtaining full-time employment with the Town.

“Completing these negotiations with no disruption in service to the community demonstrates that the system works – for our members, the Town and for residents. I would like to thank the membership for their invaluable support of our bargaining committee while the difficult work of negotiating a fair settlement was underway,” said Lafreniere.
