TORONTO, ONT. – Members of CUPE 1600, workers at the Toronto Zoo, have ratified a tentative agreement.

“We came to the tentative agreement on Friday night,” said Grant Ankenman, president of the local.  “We arranged a ratification vote as soon as we could and we’re pleased with the agreement.

“It was our goal to continue to bargain until we could reach a fair settlement that both workers and management could accept and we were able to achieve that goal.”

Details of the agreement will be released when the Toronto Zoo Board of Management ratifies the agreement on Thursday, May 20.

Members of CUPE 1600 are 300 zoo employees who provide animal care, health and nutrition, maintenance and custodial services, guest services, education, membership, and exhibit design among many other job classifications.
