WINDSOR, Ont. Child care workers from Harrow Day Care Centre, located in the Town of Harrow, have voted to become members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The 11 early childhood educators and child care workers overwhelmingly voted to join CUPE in a certification vote supervised by the Ontario Labour Relations Board on Thursday, August 23, 2007.
CUPE is committed to organize child care professionals, like our new members from Harrow child care centre, said Laura Moore, CUPE national representative. Our strength in numbers and experience in the child care sector will help elevate the quality of child care and improve working conditions for child care professionals.
The Harrow Day Care centre provides child care services to many families in the town of Harrow and the surrounding area, and is licensed for 50 children, from toddlers to school-aged.
CUPE advocates for quality, accessible child care, provided by dedicated professional workers in a not-for-profit environment. As the leading Canadian union in the child care sector, CUPE continues to wage successful public awareness campaigns on child care issues, including the push to pass Bill C-303, an NDP private members bill that will lay the foundation for an accountable, high quality early learning and child care system in Canada.
