Children Aid Services in Ontario are facing an imminent crisis due to a $67 million dollar shortfall in funding by the provincial government.

The provincial government has rightfully passed legislation to improve the safety and care of our most vulnerable children.  However, the provincial government has failed to support these CAS’s with the funds needed to provide this service.

In Windsor, layoffs notices have been given and layoffs in other communities, such as Guelph, are expected.

In addition to the lack of adequate funding across the board, the current funding model has an inequal funding distribution which has caused the Northern and First Nations community CAS’s to almost close down.

To solve this crisis, we need to fix the funding formula and provide adequate funding for our Children Aid Societies.

The OACAS has submitted their pre-budget report to the standing committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.
