SUDBURY–‘CUPE members from Sudbury to Sault Ste. Marie are standing in solidarity with striking members of United Steelworkers of America Local 6500.

CUPE North Bay District Council President Henri Giroux and Ontario Executive Board member Wyman Mackinnon joined CUPE members from as far away as Sault Ste. Marie joined the picket lines with Local 6500 members, who have been on strike since July 13 against foreign multinational mining company Vale Inco. The profitable Brazilian mining company is demanding major concessions from workers that would harm their families and their community.

In addition to picket and moral support, Giroux presented the strikers with a donation of $4,100 to Local 6500’s strike fund, collected from CUPE Locals across the region.
