May is Asian Heritage Month, and CUPE Ontario encourages all members to take this opportunity to reflect on the economic, social, cultural, and political contributions people of Asian decent have made to our country, our society and our union.
Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated in the United States for over three decades. In December 2001, the Senate adopted a motion proposed by Senator Vivienne Poy to officially designate May as Asian Heritage Month in Canada. The Government of Canada signed an official declaration to designate May as Asian Heritage Month in May 2002.
CUPE Ontario members are encouraged to take part in events taking place this month to celebrate Asian Heritage Month:
