Support Ajax library workers

The library is the heart of a community, and that’s especially true in a growing town like Ajax.

But town council and the library board are preventing our library from serving our growing population.

The library’s operating budget hasn’t kept up with inflation, much less with growth. Wages for library workers have likewise failed to keep up. A new branch was recently opened, but no new staff were hired to work there.

The strangling of the library’s resources has also led to understaffing, overwork and safety issues that keep library workers from being able to provide the incredible services you expect.

Send an email to the council today. Tell them you value your library and want a fair contract for library workers and proper funding for library services.

I love Ajax Public Library, and the workers are what makes it so special. I urge you to intervene to provide a contract that respects library workers and services.

For years, wages and funding have failed to keep up with inflation and a growing demand for services. Understaffing and increasing workloads are destroying morale. And a management demand that regular full-time workers take the place of management on evenings and weekends will hurt not only employee families, but will take vital staff away from peak midweek programs and services.

In a growing and diverse town like Ajax, library services are critically important.

I call on you to intervene and secure a contract for library workers that shows respect to them, improves safety for workers and the public alike and that demonstrates you value the library as much as I do.
