95 child care workers across Ottawa are fighting for a living wage. They’re not asking for too much – just enough to keep pace with the skyrocketing cost of living without needing a second job.

Good child care and good jobs go hand-in-hand. Families deserve the type of high quality care that sets children up for a lifetime of learning and child care workers deserve fair wages that recognize their training and talent. Help these workers get the deal they need. Demand that employers of Ottawa Federation of Parents’ Day Care invest in workers.

Child care workers are skilled professionals. They create the kinds of creative, nurturing environments children need to grow. When early childhood educators, cooks, and cleaners from Glebe Parents’ Day Care, Vanier Co-operative School Age Program, Dalhousie Parents’ Day Care, and Centretown Parents Day Care went to the bargaining table for a new deal, they were met with a smokescreen and half truths.

What they have done is try and divide worker from worker, offering one group a better wage than another. But these workers won’t be divided – and all workers deserve a decent wage just like all families deserve to know that the people caring for their children are compensated with wage increases that keep up with the cost of living.

Send a message to the Board of Directors today. Tell them to treat workers fairly.

Subject: I support child care workers. You should too.

I am writing in support of members of CUPE 2204.12 who work at Glebe Parents’ Day Care, Vanier Co-operative School Age Program, Dalhousie Parents’ Day Care, and Centretown Parents Day Care.

There is a workforce crisis in child care in our province. These workers want to provide the best quality care – but that can only happen if you invest in them.

That means paying them a living fair wage – NOW. They have been waiting for over 16 months.

Instead of treating workers with respect, your Board of Directors, along with the other Boards that make up the Ottawa Federation of Parents’ Day Care, has tried to divide workers, offering one group a better wage than another.

That won’t stand.

All workers deserve a reasonable wage, just like all families deserve to know that the people caring for their children are fairly treated.

I urge you to work with the other Boards, stop trying to divide workers against each other, and come up with a solution that works for all.

Thanks.
