Whitby, ON – The Whitby Library achieved a significant milestone last night by successfully securing their first tentative collective agreement with CUPE 53, which represents city workers employed by the Town of Whitby. This accomplishment follows closely on the heels of CUPE 53’s resolution of a strike that concluded on November 15, after lasting over a month.

“We are delighted with the outcome and proud of the collaborative effort that brought us to this point,” says Rob Radford, President of CUPE 53. “The success of this negotiation highlights our commitment to fostering positive labour relations and ensuring the well-being of workers in the Whitby community.”

Ratification by both parties is planned for mid-December.

CUPE 53 has now expanded to include four units, collectively representing over 500 full-time and part-time workers in the Town of Whitby and the Town of Uxbridge, with the library unit consisting of 60 workers.
