Support Markham Public Library Workers

Markham Public Library workers need your support. Markham Public Library has been forcing workers to transfer work locations, upending workers’ child care and elder care arrangements, and disrupting their ability to provide consistent service to community members.

Let City Council know that public library workers deserve job location security and livable wages. Use the form below to send a message to your City Councillor and the Mayor now.

Dear [City Councillor for your Ward] and Mayor Scarpitti,

I am calling on you to reach a fair deal with Markham Public Library workers to avoid a labour disruption. I fully support public library workers’ demands for fair wages and job location security.

Library workers build essential relationships in the community – they get to know us and we get to know them. I urge you to stop forced location transfers that disrupt library workers’ quality of life and interfere with our consistent use of our local library branches.

Branch closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent closure of the Milliken Mills branch have greatly impacted the community. We rely on public library services, and we cannot endure another shutdown of essential library services if there is job action. I am asking you to issue a fair offer to public library workers that acknowledges their reasonable demands for fair wages and an end to forced location transfers.

Please reach a fair deal with Markham Public Library Workers now!

Sincerely,
