NORTH BAY, ON – Frontline child protection worker and administrative and support staff, locked out of their jobs by Nipissing and Parry Sound children’s aid society, will begin the first day of their lockout with a strong show of solidarity by the workers themselves and support from their allies from communities in the districts of Nipissing and Almaguin and the child welfare sector.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 23, workers from the Children’s Aid Society (CAS) of the District of Nipissing and Parry Sound will picket the society’s administration office at 457 Main Street West in North Bay.
At 11:00 a.m., they will be joined by their community allies and will begin a march to downtown North Bay. Between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., they will rally in front of the main office of Nipissing and Parry Sound CAS on McIntyre Street and return to picket the society’s administration building until 3:00 p.m.
The event marks the first day of the lockout by Nipissing and Parry Sound CAS. The society precipitated the lockout at mediation talks on Tuesday, December 20, when it presented the same contract offer that 96% of unionized workers rejected in a supervised vote the previous week.
