Mike McNeil’s untimely passing a loss to all of labour

Dear CUPE Sisters and Brothers:

The labour movement has suffered a great loss with the untimely passing of Brother Mike McNeil on Saturday, March 12. As president of CUPE Nova Scotia, Mike was a friend, a brother, and a strong voice for working people.

Brother Mike worked tirelessly to help CUPE members and to advance the labour movement as a long-term care worker and CUPE Local 1259 executive board member, as a CUPE occasional instructor and, since November 2015, as president of CUPE Nova Scotia.

Working people in Ontario and Nova Scotia share a common struggle in these times of austerity being practiced by governments that purport to be progressive. We are proud to have marched alongside Brother Mike in these struggles, and to have learned from him together on the CUPE National Executive Board where he served as Regional Vice-President for Nova Scotia.

Our thoughts are with the McNeil family and the many CUPE sisters and brothers in Nova Scotia and across the country who today are mourning and celebrating the life of a great labour leader.
