Burlington is one of Canada’s wealthiest cities.
Despite city council getting a combined 3.4% increase this year, the employer is refusing to address the ongoing wage disparity between municipal workers in Burlington and those in neighbouring Hamilton. With steady growth, there is also no reason why Burlington refuses benefits to workers over 65 years of age.
Burlington was named best mid-sized city in Canada by MoneySense magazine. But where’s the pride in that when the city’s own workers, members of CUPE Local 44 (outside workers) and 2723 (transit workers), are being treated unfairly?
