CUPE Ontario extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Sister Kathy Paton, longtime Recording Secretary of CUPE Local 2936, who passed away suddenly while during CUPE’s National Convention in Montreal.
Sister Kathy’s sudden death shocked and saddened delegates from across the country, and everyone’s attention turned immediately to supporting her family through this tragedy.
Informal collections were taken on the convention floor, with Ontario delegates opening up their hearts and wallets to help out the family in their time of need. CUPE National made a donation to the family, and CUPE Ontario matched the donations and pledges made by Ontario delegates, presenting CUPE Local 2936 with a cheque for $8,594.76. All told, more than $10,000 has been raised to date to support Sister Kathy’s family.
