MISSISSAUGA, ON – Fred Hahn, president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario, will speak tonight at a meeting of members in Mississauga. The meeting will focus on the October 27 municipal and school board elections and the importance of voting for progressive candidates who stand up for public services and good jobs in the community.
“Our members in Mississauga considered all the candidates and have decided to endorse Steve Mahoney for mayor and I’m proud to stand with them in this decision,” said Hahn. “Mississauga is at a crossroads with Hazel McCallion stepping down. People have a real chance to choose a great future for this city.”
Hahn will encourage members to vote and get active in campaigns for mayor, councillors and school board trustees.
“Bonnie Crombie has spent the past few weeks bashing unions and bragging about her plans to slash public services. That’s a plan to diminish Mississauga and it’s the wrong course,” said Hahn. “We know that public services and good jobs are vital to the quality of life for everyone in Mississauga. They are at the heart of building a vibrant and diverse community.”
