TORONTO, Ont. – More than 1000 members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) from across the province will gather at the Sheraton Toronto Centre starting Wednesday for the 50th annual CUPE Ontario Convention.

For half a century, CUPE Ontario has stood up for fairness and quality public services. At this Convention, members will celebrate 50 years of building a better Ontario. Continuing its democratic tradition members will vote on the policies and an action plan that direct CUPE Ontario’s political action over the next year.

Media are invited to join us for key moments during the Convention, which is expected to be one of the largest in our union’s history. Events open to media include:

Morning – Convention opening and CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn

Afternoon – CUPE National President Paul Moist

Thursday, May 30

2:00 p.m. – Sylvia McAdam, co-founder of Idle No More

Friday, May 31

Mid-morning – Michael Harrington, Director of Operations, Chicago Teachers Union
