WINDSOR, ON – Fred Hahn was acclaimed to a second two-year term as President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario in Windsor at the 49th annual convention of the province’s largest union.
Origninally from Tillsonburg, Ontario, 44-year-old Fred Hahn is a social worker from Toronto and the first openly gay man to be elected to lead an Ontario trade union. Hahn has been an active CUPE member since 1990. He was first elected to the CUPE Ontario Executive Board in 1998 and was elected Secretary-Treasurer in 2006. He was first elected President in 2010, succeeding Sid Ryan.
“I love this union and will work with our members all over Ontario to protect the vital services we provide – services all our communities rely on,” said Hahn, who received a standing ovation from more than 1100 delegates and staff at the Convention.
Candace Rennick, a long-term care worker from Peterborough, was re-elected to as Secretary-Treasurer. The full list of board members elected follows:

Delegates also unanimously voted to add a new position to the executive board, Diversity Vice-President, LGBTQ Workers.
CUPE Ontario is the largest union in the province. It represents more than 230,000 workers in five main sectors: municipal, health care, social services, universities and school boards.
