TORONTO, Ont. – The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3903, representing Teaching Assistants, Graduate Assistants, and contract faculty at York University, has reached a tentative agreement with the university.

“We bargained long and hard and I’m very pleased to say we were able to reach a tentative agreement before we were forced onto the picket line,” said Skot Deeming, the local’s Communications Officer. “We took the university’s proposal to our membership at a special membership meeting today, Thursday, April 12, and it was the consensus that the university had met most of our goals in this round of bargaining.

“It was a very tense time for all of us. Most of our members are also students, so withdrawing services would have meant hardships for them as well.”

Details of the agreement will be made public when the ratification votes for members and the university are complete.
