PEMBROKE, Ont. – CUPE Renfrew District Council representatives are on the picket line this morning to show solidarity with the 36 employees, members of United Steelworkers Union Local 1-1000, who have been on strike since April 21, 2010 when talks broke down.

“After 420 days on the picket line, those workers need to know that other unions in this region care about them” said LeeAnn Sommerville, President of CUPE Renfrew District Council. “We have asked all our CUPE locals to make a donation and we are happy to deliver a cheque for over $3000 today”.

“CUPE members are standing with you today to say that we support your fight against this American company. CUPE will not let employer get away by asking concessions on contract that were negotiated in good faith,” Sommerville added.

CUPE Renfrew District Council includes locals from the City of Pembroke (CUPE 24), Bonnechere Manor (CUPE 1508), the Pembroke Hospital (CUPE 1502), the Renfrew Hospital (CUPE 1548), the Arnprior Hospital (CUPE 2198), Stoneridge Manor (CUPE 2564), Miramichi Lodge (CUPE 3586), and the Renfrew District School Board Clerical (CUPE 1321).
