NEWMARKET, Ont. Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 905, employed at long-term care (LTC) facilities in the Regional Municipal of York, have ratified a new collective agreement.
We’re quite pleased with this new agreement, said Bev Blair, vice-chair of the unit. Bargaining went smoothly. We were able to work as a team and both parties put forward ideas that would fit into the ministry’s guidelines for the future direction of long- term care.
A highlight of the new contract is more hours of face-to-face contact with the LTC clients something CUPE has been working hard to ensure.
The focus of both parties was to make the ministry plan work in the best interests of our clients, said Lorne Trevors, CUPE National Rep. We are also going to work on a collaborative approach to develop a new staffing model, enhanced training, and employment opportunities with more permanent positions.
There are two long-term care facilities in the Region and a number of assisted community living residences.
