We mourn those injured and killed in last night’s shooting at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec. CUPE Ontario stands in love and solidarity with Muslim communities everywhere, and with our CUPE brothers and sisters affected by anti-Muslim violence.
CUPE Ontario strongly condemns the attack in Québec and other recent manifestations of Islamophobia in North America, including U.S. President Trump’s ban on all refugees as well as visa-holders from 7 Muslim-majority countries. We stand in solidarity with Muslims, immigrants, refugees and migrants in Canada and abroad.
As Ontario’s community union, we believe our communities should be safe for everyone, regardless of identity or immigrant status. Today, we commit to redoubling our work with our members to fight racism and Islamophobia. We call on CUPE Ontario members and staff to join the National Days of Action Against Islamophobia and White Supremacy on February 4 and 5 to show that our voices are many and that we will all stand in solidarity with those facing immediate violence in our communities.
