Earlier, the tranquility of a spring day in North York was disturbed by an incident that claimed the lives of family, neighbours, and friends.
North York can count on the labour movement’s support in this difficult moment. We must respond as a community and grieve as a community.
We applaud the courage and heroism of the public and first responders – including members of CUPE Ontario such as paramedics and hospital workers – who tended to the injured and who help us to heal after events like these.
While we wait for all the facts to emerge, let us not fall prey to simplistic or racist explanations. Let us rather draw on the power of diversity which is the true source and meaning of our strength as Canadians. Let us unite in meeting violence with healing and an act of hatred with love for all our neighbours.
