Renfrew, ON – Casual employees at Renfrew County Catholic District School Board delivered a strong “Yes” vote today, becoming the newest members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

“It is important for casual workers to get the same protections as full and part-time workers,” said Marc Lafrance, a CUPE representative who is involved in the organizing drive. “It is hard for non-union workers to stand up for their rights, and we’re looking forward to helping these casual school workers ensure they have safe, healthy and respectful working conditions.”

The roughly 60 workers join more than 55,000 CUPE members who work across the province in the English and French public and Catholic boards.

CUPE is the union in Canada, representing more than 700,000 workers in education, healthcare, municipalities, social services, universities, transportation and communications.
