NORTH BAY, ON – Workers locked out of their jobs by Nipissing and Parry Sound Children’s Aid Society (CAS) are hoping that a visit by Premier Kathleen Wynne to North Bay could be the catalyst for ending the labour disruption that began on December 23.

Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will hold an information picket this afternoon on the shared campus of Nipissing University and Canadore College in front of the Harris Learning Library, where Premier Kathleen Wynne is attending a town hall for Nipissing and Canadore students.

“We know that Premier Wynne can’t and won’t get involved in a local lockout,” said Debbie Hill, President of CUPE 2049, which represents frontline, administrative and support workers at the CAS. “But if there’s even a chance that highlighting our labour situation here in the north will help dedicated workers get back to their jobs, we didn’t want to pass it up.

“Above all, we want to tell the Premier that workers want Nipissing and Parry Sound CAS to end the lockout and get back to the bargaining table. That’s the only place we’ll resolve the issues that hinder us from keeping children safe.”
