Droves of hospital workers gathered outside the Cornwall Community Hospital protesting, what they believe is, a violation of their workplace rights.

They were concerned about Bill 195, which is being considered in the legislature. The Canadian Union of Public Employees states the bill would lay workers off, force shift changes with no notice and move workers to long-term care facilities.

“Heath care workers represented by CUPE, who are protesting today to pressure the government to drop the emergency order that overrides our contracts,” said Michael Hurley, president of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions for CUPE. “We’re saying health care workers in Ontario paid a terrible price for doing their jobs.”
